Frequently Asked Questions

  1. I do not live in Orange, can I play in Region 1335? Yes! In AYSO you can play in any AYSO region you want. It is just a matter of how far you want to drive to play?

  2. When is practice? Practice is determined by the coach and the parents on the team. Practice usually runs Monday-Friday, 1-2 times a week, anywhere from 4-8 PM, for 1-2hrs a day, depending on the age group. U5-U8  usually practice 1 day a week for 30 minutes  to 1 hour a day. U10 and up usually practice 2 times a week for 1hr - 2hrs a day. The Region cannot guarantee a practice time or location.

  3. What is Fall Season? Fall Soccer is a primary sport in the fall. The fall season is designed for all players of all skill levels to come out and have fun while learning to play soccer. Fall teams are formed to be even in skill. Coaches cannot pick players and players cannot pick coaches. The fall season has 3 times as many kids than what plays in the spring. More is done in the fall than in the spring like pictures, participation awards, and  a fundraiser.

  4. What is Spring Season? Spring soccer is more for the dedicated soccer player. Soccer is a secondary sport in the spring while baseball is a primary sport in the spring. Since baseball is a primary sport fewer kids sign up to play soccer in the spring making it harder to form teams due to a lack of kids signing up to play. So in the spring some divisions may not have enough kids to play while other divisions have enough kids to play. For example: Spring 2006 did not have a boys division, only girls divisions. Only girls division U8, U10, U12, and U14 actually had enough kids to form teams. Spring is more of a coach driven program and has different levels of play that is not offered in the fall and different rules for forming teams than in the fall. Coaches can select players in the spring. Spring season does not have pictures, participation awards, ect. Spring is all about playing soccer and nothing else.

  5. When are the games?  Games are played on Saturday anywhere from 8 AM- 4 PM. One game a Saturday. U10 and up will play Sunday games if they go to Play-offs or All-stars and may play up to 3 games a day at Play-offs or All-stars.

  6. Can my child play with a friend or a  specific coach? You may request to play with a  friend but not a coach. Children may request one friend to play on a team. Not all requests can be honored, as team balancing is our #1 priority. There is no guarantee that any request will be made possible.

  7. What is team balancing?  Teams are made evenly balanced based on age, experience, and school location. This is done to ensure that teams are evenly competitive and fun. In the AYSO Fall Season, it is about having fun while learning to play soccer. Teams that are being slaughtered each game are not having fun. So teams are balanced as evenly as possible based on information provided by parents at registration.

  8. What equipment will my child need? Region 1335 will provide the basic uniform (Jersey, Shorts, Socks). Do not put your child's name on his/her uniform. They will not be able to wear a uniform bearing their name in a AYSO game.

You must provide:

Shin-guards (required for practice and games)

Soccer Shoes (not required, but highly recommended)

Water Bottle (not required, but highly recommended)

Soccer Ball (not required, but highly recommended)

U5-U8     Size 3 Ball

U10-U12  Size 4 Ball

U14-U19  Size 5 Ball

  1. What can I do to make a change in the way things are done?  Do not complain! Do something about it! You can volunteer and become a Coach, Referee, or Board Member.

  2. My child does not have a coach, Why?  AYSO Region 1335 is a all volunteer organization. All the volunteers are parents of players. AYSO does not have a coach or referee staff waiting for you when you register your child. AYSO does not pay its volunteers and prohibits paying any coach, referee, trainer, or staff member. Players are registered and then parents volunteer to coach, referee, and run the region. If you the parents do not volunteer?. Then the kids will not be able to play.

  3. My child's coach was ejected form the game. Why did the game end? All AYSO teams are required to have a AYSO Registered and AYSO Trained Coach at all practices and games. If your team only has one coach and he is ejected or removed? The game and practices must end. Also, any ejection (parent or coach) carries an automatic (1) game suspension. Coaches and parents must realize that if they misbehave? They will be asked to leave and it may directly effect the kids playing. So coaches and parents must behave responsibly at all games and practices if they want the kids to play!

  4. Do boys and girls play together? No. In region 1335 they do not play together. In some regions U5-U6 teams  may combine boys and girls. This is usually done when a low number of kids register to play.

  5. Why are pets not allowed at game or practice? Region 1335 enforces these laws to protect our permits and to comply with AYSO National Rules and Regulations. Also, the City Of Orange and The County of Orange prohibit dogs on school property. The City of Orange follows County laws in this matter.

Orange County Civil Ordinance 4-1-45, 4-1-46

Dogs on school property, county parks and beaches

“No person having the charge of any dog, except a guide dog or service dog, shall permit said dog to be under any circumstances within public school property, certain county parks, or any public beach” (OCCO 4-1-46). It is unlawful to be on any public school property with your dog. Setting your dog loose to play, even within a fenced area, at a public school is a direct violation of this ordinance. See  OC Harbors, Beaches and Parks for county parks that permit dogs that are leashed

Dogs must be on a leash.

“No person owning or having charge, care, custody, or control of any dog shall cause or permit, either willfully or through failure to exercise due care or control, any such dog to be upon any public property unless such dog be restrained by a substantial chain, or leash not exceeding six (6) feet in length, and is under the charge of a person competent to exercise care, custody, and control over such dog” (OCCO 4-1-45). You must keep your dog leashed anytime your dog is off your property. Your dog must be on a leash no longer then six (6) feet in length and in the care of a competent adult. There are designated ‘dog parks’ throughout Orange County that lawfully allow the absence of a leash. Source: http://www.ocpetinfo.com/animfield_laws.htm
